What is Health Information Management?

Health information management is the study of the principles and practices of acquiring, analyzing, integrating and protecting digital and traditional medical information vital to providing quality patient care.

HIM is the link to clinicians, technology designers, and information technology; and is the value-adding bridge between patients’ health information and payers, government, and regulating agencies. HIM practitioners demonstrate leadership and management of health information in all formats (paper, scanned, or computerized forms), and are a critical component of the electronic health record (EHR) workforce.  More information is available at HealthInformationCareers.com.

IdHIMA's 350+ plus professionals are employed in a variety of healthcare settings, such as hospitals, physician's offices, nursing homes, mental health facilities, insurance companies, health information system vendors, healthcare consulting firms, and governmental agencies.
